FIVE FACTS ABOUT THE INDIAN SUPER LEAGUE

By Playspots Nov 19, 2018

Indian super league is Indian men’s super league in India
For sponsorship reasons, the league is officially known as the Hero Indian Super League. One of the top football league in the country
it currently shares the top spot in the Indian football league system with the I-League. The league is contested by 10 teams and will run from September to March during the 2018–19 season. Here are some interesting facts about ISL

1.world fourth biggest league

That the interest was there is beyond question now. You need only look at some of the figures behind the ISL’s success. The average attendance is 24,357, which is lower only than the Bundesliga, the Premier League, and La Liga. It’s worth repeating: it is the fourth biggest league in the world. Bigger than France, than Italy, than Brazil, than Argentina and China – countries that have an established football tradition, and the only one that has more people. Kerala Blasters, an ISL team, has the highest average attendance for home matches outside Europe. It is placed 11th including European clubs. Clubs like Chelsea, Juventus, Atletico Madrid etc. are behind Kerala Blasters in average attendance.

2.its all about money

The Indian Super League has a prize money fund higher than any other domestic tournament in the country, bar the IPL. In fact, the ISL prize money far outweighs that of India’s domestic football league, I- League.

The ISL champions are entitled to a prize of Rs 8 crores, while the runners-up will receive Rs 4 crores. Compare that to the measly Rs 1 crore I- League 2016 champions, Bengaluru FC, received earlier this year.

3.its problematic

However, the current structure of Indian football is problematic, with two top-tier leagues running in parallel. The ISL runs in conjunction with the I-League (scheduled to begin later this month), which has been India’s only professional league since 2007. In the battle, covert and overt, to establish singular supremacy, the ISL seems to be pulling its structural and financial weight.

On the one hand, the ISL has a structure that is highly commercialized, entailing higher investment and expenditure, as well as yielding greater revenues. I-League teams may have limited revenues but they enjoy a greater local connect, a feature that runs through the century-old legacy clubs of Kolkata, as well as newer teams with representation from Manipur, Mizoram, and Kashmir.

4.The Team

There will be ten-team who will participate in ISL namely FC Pune City, Atletico De Kolkata, Kerala Blasters, Northeast United FC, Team Mumbai, Team Chennai, Team Goa, and Delhi Dynamos FC.bengaluru FC, Jamshedpur FC

5.Celebrity Involvement

Some popular names have got linked with the ISL. Some prominent owners of ISL teams are Sachin Tendulkar – Kerala Blasters FC, Salman Khan – FC Pune City, Ranbir Kapoor – Team Mumbai, John Abraham – Northeast United FC, Abhishek Bachchan – Team Chennai, Saurav Ganguly – Atletico De Kolkata
