However, there is a recognition of good sports spirit and rising culture in the North-Eastern states of India. Nagaland contributes toquite a portion of this rising sports culture, presenting the country with iconic sports persons like Joseph Sumi and Chekrovolu Swuro.

Nagaland, one of the North-Eastern states of India, was formed in 1963, and constitutes 16 recognised indigenous tribes, each having their own distinct language, culture, and traditions. These different tribal groups play different games and sports. A few of them are Aki Kiti (a semi-contact combat sport of kicking), Kene (a folk wrestling style) and Pcheda (a sport that involves throwing bamboo sticks).

The love for football exhibited by Nagaland is heartwarming. Nagaland Premier League is the top state-level football league in this beautiful Indian state. It is managed by Nagaland Football Association (NFA). The football players James Kithan, Visalie Mezhü and Neithovilie Chalieu, hailing from Nagaland, have made the country proud in many sports forums, all the more confirming the fact that this state has a high potential for football. As sports lovers and passionate sportspersons, it is our responsibility to make sure such amazing potential gets all the support it requires to grow and excel.
