Women’s Football And Sports Love In Kerala

Yet another great news for all the sports lovers and especially the football lovers in Kerala and across the country. Kerala Blasters FC, the football club in the Indian Super League (ISL), have announced the launch of their senior women’s team. The squad will compete in the upcoming Kerala Women’s League organised by the Kerala Football Association (KFA). They are competing to win the title and qualify for the Indian Women’s League (IWL). In the next 2-3 years, the club also aims to represent the country at the AFC level. Blasters will train at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi ahead of the Kerala Women’s League starting next month.
This is a huge achievement for the state in terms of gender equal representation, a new beginning in the sports field and a major leap of faith for all the female football lovers. A milestone has been achieved by the Kerala Blasters FC. Football is the heartbeat of many enthusiastic youth of Kerala, making it the most-loved sport of almost all youngsters. Sadly, female participation in football is comparatively less as compared to men in Kerala. This is mainly due to the stigmatized belief that women should not play extremely physical sports, which exists among the older generations of the state. But this spectacular milestone by the most passionate players of the state, is in itself a huge inspiration to all the football loving girls in Kerala, to follow their dreams and play their way to the top.
The women and girls of Kerala should be motivated more, to follow their dreams in sports and to not be held back by the stigmatized thinking of the society. Girls can do wonders, if given the right opportunity. More and more women should come into the sports field, girls should take inspiration from the world’s best female players who have made it to the top, and the elders of the country should start believing in their girls more. It’s all about motivation, persistence and hard work, Indian sports need more women players, Kerala football needs more passionate female players. Let’s all work together to make that happen.
